Every day, I receive a text message from goTandem.com that includes a daily Bible verse. If I am ever in a bad mood (I know… it’s unimaginable) or something is bothering me, I am instantly caught off-guard and forced to rethink my situation when one of these verses is sent to me. It’s refreshing, really.

I love having this service on my phone because it often brings me back to what’s important and it always ends the message with a question to ponder for the day.

This Sunday, as I was leaving church, I received a message from goTandem that read, “Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps. But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” -Amos 5:23-24

I took this to mean that God does not need our rituals, but instead needs us to live righteously and seek Him out. We need to uphold justice and remember why we have a relationship with Him in the first place.

It was interesting that Amos 5:23-24 was the verse of the day because it was a reminder that just going to church and singing along to the worship music are not what make us better Christians. If you are not fully present and involved in the worship, going to church can become just a habit, making it easy to forget why we’re really there.

If you have never used goTandem before, it only takes a minute to sign up and you can adjust the preferences to have as much or as little interaction as you choose. I can honestly say that it’s one of my favorite services that I have on my phone.
