What You Need to Know
Preparing early is key. To help

Important Deadlines
- The W-2 and 1099-MISC (box 7) recipient, e-file and paper form deadlines all fall on January 31.
- Many states have moved their deadlines from February or March to coincide with the January 31st federal deadline. View State Deadlines
Know Your Forms
W-2 Forms
- The form employers use to report yearly wage and
withholding information for employees.
- An employee is defined as anyone who performs services
for an employer and the employer can control what will be done and how it
will be done (Even employees with freedom of action).
- File to the SSA & Employees.
1099 Forms
- The form businesses use to report miscellaneous income.
(e.g. contract or freelance worker whom you paid at least $600 during the
year, as well as fees, royalties, commissions and rental income).
- An individual is considered an independent contractor
if the payer has the right to control or direct only the result of the
work and not how it will be done.
- File to IRS & Recipients.
1095-C Forms
- The form employers use to report health coverage for
employees (1095-B for self-insured employers with fewer than 50 full-time
employees).
- Full-time employees are defined as those who worked an
average of at least 30 hours per week or 130 service hours in a calendar
month.
- This year two states (Washington DC and New Jersey) are
now requiring the 1095-C to be filed.
- File to IRS & Recipients.
Other Forms
There are other
forms you may be required to file, such as 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, or 1099-R to
